The ten-piece capsule that does it all

How to build a small, hard-working wardrobe for Indian weather — and why fewer pieces make getting dressed easier.

The ten-piece capsule that does it all

A capsule wardrobe is simply a short list of pieces that all work together. Instead of a full cupboard and nothing to wear, you get a handful of favourites you can mix a dozen ways. It is the idea Buyitwell is built on: buy less, choose well.

Start with the base layer

Begin with the pieces you already reach for most. For most wardrobes that means two or three breathable tops, one pair of well-fitting jeans or trousers and one relaxed bottom such as palazzos or joggers. Choose soft, neutral colours for these so everything else sits on top easily.

  • Two cotton or cotton-blend tees or tops
  • One shirt that works buttoned up or open over a tee
  • One pair of dark jeans and one relaxed trouser

Add one or two personality pieces

Next, choose the pieces that make an outfit feel like yours: a printed kurti, an embroidered co-ord set or a colour-block shirt. One or two statement items go further than you think when everything underneath is simple.

Keep it in rotation

Every season, take stock. If something has not been worn in three months, ask why — the fit, the fabric, the colour? That answer is the best guide to your next purchase.
